The Trail!
Hunt - Part one. This is the name of the crime novel I am producing, part two will be my web comic, exploring what happens to Dt. Fox in the next stage. The plan for part one is to try and have as much content by the end of the year as possible, the story is looking to be a fairly long affair. Simply because I have, what I feel is a strong story that will carry well over multiple issues. This may be a hinderance in some ways but I don't feel that I can really take too much out as it would take away from the story.
To date I have six pages inked, I am having trouble finding a program for adding the text, but this will just involve trial and error until I find a method I am happy with. The production will be something I will need to look into such as printing costs, how much it would cost for a small run or if it would be cheaper to have a large run, and if I have enough material then do I try and print as one long issue or split it up into smaller issues, again this is all issues that i need to look into closer to the time of when I want to print the comic. Or in an ideal world I would be able to find a publisher, I'm not talking Marvel or DC here but perhaps a smaller company, such as Uproar possibly. I have also heard off a company in southern Ireland that don't pay but do publish and pay royalties, so that could be another option.
In terms of public promotion, I would like to have a book made up for say the London book fair, Angouleme as it will be available to us this year and could be a good platform for a launch. With the web comic, i have a website that has shown great interest and will either let me attach a page to the website or give me a banner with a link to my blog page for the Hunt pt.2. I had hoped to have this launched already but after speaking to the owner of the website BadHaven he advised me too prolong launching through his website until there is a substantial body of work up already to give people a real taste of what the comic is about. I agree with this even though I would have liked to be up and running as soon as possible. It may come to the point in which I launch both as web comics just to get a feel for what people think off the comics together, but this wouldn't be ideal as I would really like to get them published, but that would be a great undertaking especially as it would be only myself producing the comics, so too try and work on two comic simultaneously would be a big ask, but if the opportunity arose I would have too find a way to do it.
I hope to have enough pages for the end of January to at least get one comic printed through a printing company in Derry. I have looked into cost and it seems fairly reasonable for a short run of the first issue.
